H. Resit Akçakaya, Ph.D

Resit Akçakaya is a conservation biologist and expert in population dynamics, modeling, and extinction risk assessment. Resit holds a PhD in theoretical ecology from Stony Brook University and a BSc from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. He has over 100 publications in conservation biology and theoretical ecology and has authored four books. Said publications have totaled in over 16,000 citations. He is currently chair of the IUCN Red List Standards and Petitions Subcommittee where he develops guidelines for the ‘Red List’ of threatened species, and evaluates petitions against red listings. 

 

At Applied Biomathematics, Dr. Akçakaya helped to construct the basis for the RAMAS library. He helped to develop models for risk assessment and metapopulations as well as integrating geographic information systems into metapopulation dynamics softwares.
